A SWOT analysis is a structured planning method used to evaluate the strengths, weakness, opportunities and threats involved in a project or in a business venture. A SWOT analysis can be carried out for a product, place, industry or person. It involves specifying the objective of the business venture or project and identifying the internal and external factors that are favorable and unfavorable to achieve that objective.
Strengths: characteristics of the business or project that give it an advantage over others.
My strength in learning is that I have my own way in memorizing text and vocabulary. As I am a strong visual learner, I find it easy to remember information by creating graphics and diagrams which represent certain ideas and information.
I study best when I am all alone, in a perfect silence. That is when I can focus on what I am doing efficiently.
Furthermore, I am good at organizing my time efficiently. For instance, I am never late for class because I know what time I should get up in the first place.
Weaknesses: characteristics that place the business or project at a disadvantage relative to others
However, I am only good at remembering the notes that I have taken down myself. Normally I spend longer time to understand given text than what I have jotted down myself.
In addition, I cannot tolerate any single distraction when I am revising, especially Mathematics. This is my weakness in learning because I will lose my temper and cannot think rationally anymore in such situation.
Besides, I am not able to learn easily when the only medium of instruction is visual or audio, and when writing material is not available.
Opportunities: elements that the project could exploit to its advantage
Opportunities for me to improve my performance in studies is that I can always print out the lecturers' slides for me to put in additional notes so that I can study better. I can also go to the library and silent hub to study if my roommate can't stop humming along with the songs she loves.
Threats: elements in the environment that could cause trouble for the business or project.
It is hard for me to control myself for not getting involved in social activities, especially the impromptu hang outs. That is when I cannot spend as much time in revision as I have planned earlier.
REFLECTION:
I will always think before I leap, such as priortizing what should be done now before taking part in any unnecessary events. Besides, I have learned how to turn down any offer in a polite way when I don't feel like participating in it so that I can focus single-mindedly on my studies.
